Kinesiology taping technique and kinesiology tape were developed in 1973 by Japanese chiropractic and acupuncturist Dr. Developed by Kenzo Kase. It has been successfully applied as an alternative (complementary) treatment method in many patients. In 1988 Seoul Olympics, 2008 Beijing (Beijing) Olympics, it has become popular with the use of many athletes to improve their performance and treat them. Later on, the use of these tapes by elite and well-known professional athletes during matches and competitions increased the popularity of the tape. increasing. Its use is very new in our country. Its use became widespread towards the end of 2010. Today, together with sports injuries, physical therapy has become a complementary treatment method that is frequently used in neurology and orthopedic diseases.
The original tape used for the first time was called “Kinesio Tex Gold”. The adhesive side of this tape, which is still the most widely used type, has a sinusoidal wavy structure.

It can stay in the applied person for 7 days. It supports the structures under the skin by integrating with the skin. Due to its porous structure, it also provides ventilation of the skin. It does not hinder the movement of the person in any way.
Although they have different colors, there is no difference between the colors in terms of effect. The color choice is left to the patient.

It has an application such as the expression from 7 to 77. It can also be done in the pediatric age group.
It is not correct to apply it on open wounds, on cancerous tissue, in case of tape allergy, on skin that has received radiotherapy or in cases with vascular occlusion, in the presence of active infection, in sunburn, and in cases where there is loss of sensation.
Some sensitive skin may experience irritation, colored bands may experience an allergic reaction to the dyestuff. It is quite rare.
The flexibility of the bands varies between 3-7 days. Generally, it should be changed every 3 days.
Are the tapes water resistant?
It does not interfere with taking showers.
Before the application, the skin should be cleaned of oil and moisture, and the area should be shaved if necessary. It takes 20-30 minutes for the tape to stick, during this time movements that will cause sweating should be avoided. Patients should be informed that the patch will stay for several days and will not come off with bathing or swimming. When the tape gets wet, remove excess water with a towel, not rub and wait for it to dry.
For a successful application, it is important to evaluate the patient well, to choose the right muscle, to determine the purpose of the taping, to give the correct position to the muscle to be applied and to adjust the tension of the tape. These significantly affect the success of the treatment. The successful application of the technique depends on knowing the anatomy of the musculoskeletal and circulatory system and using the appropriate and correct techniques.
For this reason, Kinesiology taping applications should be done by doctors or physiotherapists who have taken courses and training programs on this subject.
